Animation Studies - Reflection

Updated: May 12, 2019

Exploring the different directions I could take to make this character express individual and unique emotions has greatly improved my understanding of animation and was really helpful introducing me to animating in Maya.

Looking back on my first animation versus my last animation shows and increase in the level of complexity and personality. I also developed a more solid approach to my process of animating the character. Learning how to break key poses up into passing poses, contact poses, up and down poses, helped make the characters movements easier to manipulate and control. Understanding the 12 principals of animation greatly increased my ability to get real life and movement out of the character.

Looking back on my animations, I should have put more of an emphasis on staging and interactivity. I never had the character interacting with the space round it, instead having animation that loops a certain movement. However I do fell that even thought I restricted myself to cycles, I felt that this put more emphasis on body language to help the viewer understand what the character felt like for each animation. Overall I felt that this module greatly help my understanding of animation and Maya.
