Sword and Shield-Developing Concepts

Now that I have decided on modeling the sword and shield, I took the time to develop my concepts into fully completed pieces. I refined the ideas in Photoshop.

The Sword

Here is my final concept design for my sword. The final design closely resembles my initial design. I decided to incorporate the engraving details from my previous telescope and Greek column ideas. I used complimentary colors, the body of the sword will be textured with a free to use wood texture, the muted brown will allow for the gold rings and green jade to stand out, and really emphasize the glowing engravings. The blade of the sword will twist at the base to reinforce that its supposed to be the lizards tail.

The Shield

I tried to more closely connect the shield to the lizard theme. The two versions above were to experiment with style and shape. The first of which was supposed to be a shield designed to look like a top-view of a lizards head, therefore there was extra plating to look like scales. This design came across as very clutter to me, so i decided to continue developing the concepts.

The second design was made not only too look more shield-like, but to compliment the sword, and look like it belonged to it. Therefore, the spikes shall be green jade as well. The shield will also have glowing engravings like that of the sword. I really like the idea for the lizard and snake carvings all around the face of the shield, which were inspired by Greek pottery paintings.

Now with the concept developed, I moved onto Photoshop to complete the concept.

Here is the finalized concept. I feel it compliments the sword, and they look as though they belong together, whilst still offering something different. The wood will be brownish-red as well as have a dark brown rim. The two pieces of cloth on the thumbnail design were scrapped as I felt they would over complicate the design. And with both designs finalized, its time to begin modeling.
