Week 3 and 4- Animation Practice

Updated: Mar 10, 2019

The next pieces of animation we were asked to create features an arm rig and a blob.

These were to help build our understanding of animating objects that are grouped together, which proves significantly harder than with the bouncing ball, but not wholly unrelated.

Arm Rig: Swing

Beneath is my attempt at animating the arm rig, with a simple back and forth motion.

I am quite pleased with how this came out. The movements are fluid and believable. When learning how to convey the momentum of the bouncing ball, incorporating that knowledge into this assignment was very helpful.

Arm Rig: Forward Movement

Next is the same arm rig, still swinging but with forward movement.

I found this assignment significantly harder, as i needed to be more aware of different components of the group to make the object animate correctly. I am quite happy with the result, however I would've liked to be able to make the arm swing smoother. As it still feels slightly rigid.

The Blob

The next assignment was to animate a small blob.

This assignment was enjoyable, as the rig allowed us to experiment slightly and give the blob character. I decided to make the blob move like a slug, then have it jump and bounce. I am happy with the result, I would like to spend more time to make the movement more natural, as the with the previous assignment, moving objects within a group proves challenging, however I feel I improved in this assignment.
