Week 6 and 7- Dragons Crown

Updated: Dec 17, 2018

Moving into a new group presented new challanges. We had to adjust to new ideas and jump into a different work ethic. This meant we had to be vigilant and work as hard as we could.

Character Design

In Ortus, we focused mainly on landscape and concept art, moving to my new group, Dragons Crown, we faced a new task, character design. Dragons Crown is a World on the back of a dragon, where insect people roam and thrive, however there are socital barricades in place, which force the insect people into and upper, middle, and lower class. We wanted the character design to reflect this, and so we began experimenting with various combinations of characters, to see what designs we found flattering. We chose to go with an athetic that resembles the victiorian eras class structure, fashion style and architecture.

I was tasked with creating a middle class character and upper class Character.

I went with a Rhino Beetle and a Grasshopper. I chose these two as in nature, one is both physically larger and uses force as means of defense, where as the other looks poised and dramatic. These characteristics made them esay to shape characters from I found their real world counterparts very influential on my final design.

I had also toyed around with other character designs, such as bees for their energy, and butterflies, for their elegance, although my time with the group was short, therefore I never developed these ideas much.
